The mill by the far woods
1905 Photo of the McKibben Mill and the "mill folks"

Photo of a Logging Mill

The McKibben Mill is shown here about the time Opal is writing about in her diary. She calls the people who work here "mill folks". Several of Opal's neighbors worked at the "mill by the far woods".

Paragraph 5: The mill can do two things at once - saw logs and make noises

Scene 58: Opal watches the men from the logging camp, Lumber folks are kindly

Scene 13: The Man Who Wears Gray Neckties and is Kind to Mice works at the mill
