The Lundburg Hotel
The Lundburg Hotel in the Bohemia gold mining district in 1905

Picture of the Lundburg Hotel

Opal writes about the Bohemia gold mines several times in her diary. In one part she writes about how Sadie McKibben lets her "stake out earthworms in her back yard". Opal shows she is familiar with mining terms.

Her Uncle Henry Pearson (called Uncle Caleb in the diary) was a gold miner and is said to have taught Opal about geology and mining. The Bohemia gold mining district is about 25 miles up the river. Several members of Opal's family were miners.
